Madyson Adame of Alamo Heights

Welcome to a website dedicated to providing you some background of why I love San Antonio & Alamo Heights! Hi! I’m Madyson Adame and I will share some insights into the past of my favorite city and I hope my blog posts will provide you information regarding what are fun things to do if you choose to visit San Antonio.

I moved to Alamo Heights in February 2017 when my family relocated from Corpus Christi, Texas. We had family & friends who lived in the area and so this is where we decided to call home for my high school years. I tried out for Alamo Heights Cheerleader and my life has been on overdrive ever since! I love our Fighting Mules, wake surfing, fishing, volunteering with my mom & sister through National Charity League and really doing anything outdoors!

San Antonio was founded in May of 1718, but Spanish explorers first showed up on a camp of the Payaya Indians in 1691. The founding in 1718 was done by a Spanish Expedition on the Mission San Antonio de Valero.  The area served as a place for the mission to rest in the Texas wilderness as they traveled between missions in East Texas and the Rio Grande.

San Antonio did not officially earn its name of San Antonio until 1837 when it came a county seat for the Republic of Texas. Of course, when people think of San Antonio and history, their first thought usually has something to do with the Alamo. The story of the Alamo battle starts with Mexican independence in 1821. By 1836, the Texas Revolution was about to begin, and Texan forces occupied the Alamo for four long months before a 13-day siege brought about their death. The story of those brave fighters continues to inspire generations to this day.

After Texas earned its independence, San Antonio became the focal point of the state with nearly 3,000 permanent residents. Numbers continued to grow as immigrants flocked to the city. As a commercial hub for the southwest, there were plenty of jobs and opportunities to go around. The first railroad in San Antonio came in 1877 and that brought even more people to the area. The next big boom in population happened in 1910 as immigrants fled there during the Mexican Revolution.

To this day, San Antonio is a major military city. The city played a major role in both World War I and World War II as the city churned out resources and served as a central training hub for new soldiers. The military remains an essential element of the local economy. 1968 brought about the celebration of the city’s 250th anniversary. The years ahead brought about the first Hispanic mayor and further celebration of the city’s population diversity.

This brief overview of San Antonio history is just the tip of the iceberg. As I learn more about this great city, I will share what I have found to be fun for a high school girl.
